El Árbol Garoé is one of seven animated films that make up Islas de Leyenda, a campaign for Turismo de Islas Canarias. Seven islands, seven ancient stories, seven films, each with a different artist and a different visual language. The project was directed and produced by Brut Works, with ContrapuntoBBDO and Mushroom. For El Árbol Garoé, the production challenge was making three completely different visual languages coexist in the same story without showing the seams. Dedo Ciego’s work combines stop motion, collage and cut-out animation, each with its own logic, its own scale, its own way of moving. Brut Works built the production pipeline that held all of it together, giving Dedo Ciego the structure they needed to work with total creative freedom.
The ancient story at the centre of this film follows the Garoe, a sacred tree on the most remote island in the archipelago, capable of turning mist into water. For centuries it was the island’s most closely guarded secret, a source of life hidden from the world. Until someone revealed it. The conquistadors found the tree and destroyed it. But from the roots, a new shoot grew. The film is built from the material of the island because the story is inseparable from the land it comes from.

Islas de Leyenda - El Árbol de Garoé

El Gigante de Mahán is one of seven animated films that make up Islas de Leyenda, a campaign for Turismo de Islas Canarias. Seven islands, seven ancient stories, seven films, each with a different artist and a different visual language. The project was directed and produced by Brut Works, with ContrapuntoBBDO and Mushroom. For El Gigante de Mahán, Sara Herranz provided the designs and character studies, and Brut Works produced the film in 3D from that material. The brief was governed by one rule: the 3D had to serve the drawing, not the other way around. Every decision in the production, the book structure, the engravings, the ink textures, the depth and lighting, was designed to make the film feel like an old illustrated manuscript that has come to life, not like a 3D animation dressed up to look like one.
The ancient story at the centre of this film follows Mahán, a giant who defended his island and its people. So large his shadow covered the palm trees. Capable of pushing beached sperm whales back into the sea with his bare hands. When invaders arrived, it took more than a hundred soldiers, with arrows, lances and cannon fire, to bring him down. The film tells that story as if it came from a very old book, one that has been sitting in an archive for centuries and has only just been opened.

La Princesa Ico is one of seven animated films that make up Islas de Leyenda, a campaign for Turismo de Islas Canarias. Seven islands, seven ancient stories, seven films, each with a different artist and a different visual language. The project was directed and produced by Brut Works, with ContrapuntoBBDO and Mushroom. For La Princesa Ico, the production challenge was one of coherence: before a single character was drawn, Carla Garrido defined the palette of Lanzarote, the dark green sea that turns turquoise in an instant, the volcanic black, the sky that only exists there. Making sure that palette stayed consistent across the entire film meant building a pre-production system that could translate a graphic designer’s colour decisions into the language of frame-by-frame animation. Carla defined the world. Brut Works put it in motion.
The ancient story at the centre of this film follows Ico, a girl with blonde hair and blue eyes born to the queen of a volcanic island. Heir to the throne. But the people questioned her lineage. To prove she belonged, she had to enter a cave filled with smoke, where only those of true blood could survive. She entered. She survived. She was named queen of Zonzamas. A story about identity and belonging, told through one of the sharpest colour palettes in the campaign.

Islas de Leyenda - La Reina Ico

The Dark Wizard is a four-part HBO documentary series about Dean Potter: climber, BASE jumper, highliner, and one of the most artistically complex figures in the history of extreme sports. Directed by Peter Mortimer and Nick Rosen, the series premiered at SXSW in March 2026 and launched on HBO and Max in April 2026.
Sender Films commissioned Brut Works to create the title sequence, intro, and series logo. The deeper we got into Potter's story, the clearer it became that beyond the athlete and the legend, he was an artist. He kept journals, made drawings, and built his world from his own obsessions and fears. That changed how we approached the work.

The Dark Wizard

La Pared de Roberto is one of seven animated films that make up Islas de Leyenda, a campaign for Turismo de Islas Canarias. Seven islands, seven ancient stories, seven films, each with a different artist and a different visual language. The project was directed and produced by Brut Works, with ContrapuntoBBDO and Mushroom. For La Pared de Roberto, the production was built entirely around Ciara Quilty-Harper’s analogue technique. Oil pastel on paper, blended with fingers, means that every frame has to be physically created: painted, traced, and scanned one by one. That required designing a workflow from scratch before a single frame of animation was produced. Pre-production meant defining how physical materials could move through a digital pipeline without losing their character, building a team around that specific process, and making every visual decision, including the treatment of the two lovers as pure white silhouettes against the landscape of La Palma, before the animation began.
The ancient story at the centre of this film is one of the most emotionally charged in the archipelago. A young man bargained his soul with the devil to break through a wall separating him from the woman he loved. He shouted that he would give everything to get through. The earth burned. And before he could touch his lover’s hand, he turned into a ball of fire. The film ends with a field of violets, the colour of his eyes.

El Demonio de Echeyde is one of seven animated films that make up Islas de Leyenda, a campaign for Turismo de Islas Canarias. Seven islands, seven ancient stories, seven films, each with a different artist and a different visual language. The project was directed and produced by Brut Works, with ContrapuntoBBDO and Mushroom. For each film, that meant finding the right artist, defining the right technique, and building a production pipeline around their specific way of working. The brief was not to impose a unified aesthetic: each island has its own visual world, held together by a shared commitment to craft and cultural accuracy.
The ancient story at the centre of this film is one of the most powerful in the Guanche universe. Guayota, the demon of Echeyde, captured Magec, the sun god, and locked him inside the Teide. The world went dark. The dogs ran, the birds flew, the sea stirred. Ach amán came down from the sky and faced the demon in the most ferocious battle the world had ever seen. They say that if you get close to the Teide you can still hear it breathing.

When I Sing is a self-initiated short film conceived and directed by Malota, produced by Brut Works. It starts from something personal: the way singing can lift you out of a state of mind and take you somewhere else entirely.
The film follows that experience frame by frame. A single character, facing the camera, moving through the emotional arc of a singer: the vulnerability of exposing your voice, the resistance, and what happens when you finally stop holding back.
The film works through tension rather than explanation. The character doesn't perform for the viewer: she endures, resists, and eventually surrenders to the music. The drawing style is deliberately spare, just enough to carry the emotion. The less it explains, the more the viewer recognises.
Made with traditional frame by frame animation and original voices and instruments recorded for the piece. Selected at Animac and Anima festivals.

Before the planes took off, United announced each new destination one by one. As routes to Southeast Asia were revealed, Brut Works partnered with Brand New School to bring the campaign to life.
The brief was to capture the spirit of each destination: the tempo of Ho Chi Minh City, the landscapes of Thailand, the atmosphere of Adelaide. Not a map with pins, but a visual journey through movement and color. Each location translated into its own rhythm, its own palette, its own moment.
The visual language was built around a consistent graphic element: spheres that move through each environment, linking destinations into a single continuous piece. The same object, different worlds. Compositions were designed to feel specific to each place without relying on cliché: the right pace, the right palette, the moment where illustration and animation find each other.
The result moves as fluidly as the flights it was announcing, from one destination to the next without losing momentum.

Border Hopper is a short film directed by Nico Casavecchia, co-produced by Brut Works. It follows Laura, a Latinx filmmaker who discovers a supernatural way to navigate the U.S. immigration system. The film operates as a satire of bureaucracy, combining magic realism with elements of horror.
Brut Works developed and produced the entire animated universe of the film. The project was selected at Sundance and Palm Springs ShortFest, among others.

Festival Showcase

One sequence. Every artist in the collective contributed one frame, drawn in their own style, without instruction on how it should look. No shared aesthetic, no visual brief, no uniformity imposed from above.
The result is a shot that changes with every frame. Different line weights, different palettes, different ways of understanding the same body in the same moment. What holds it together is the movement, not the style. The action stays continuous while the visual language underneath it keeps shifting.
It could have been a simple transition between two scenes. Instead it became the most honest thing in the film: proof that the collective isn't a concept, it's a practice. Every artist brought their own obsessions to the same four seconds of screen time.
That's what the collective actually is: not a shared aesthetic, but a shared willingness to work inside the same frame. The Jump made that visible in 24 frames per second.

Alba Prado is a Spanish artist and director with a background in fine arts. Her work starts from the everyday: small details, the ordinary moment, the thing you almost miss. Through colour, plasticity, and abstraction she finds the expressiveness in it.
Fun, honest, and occasionally surreal. Her work has a way of getting to people without trying to.

Momoguro is an original IP developed by Brut Works' ECD Martin Allais and director Nico Casavecchia, in collaboration with Baobab Studios. A game franchise built around a world of characters: strange, expressive, and designed to expand.
Baobab Studios commissioned Brut Works to produce the teaser that would introduce the franchise. The piece was directed by Nico Casavecchia, with Bonkers Animation as production partner. The objective was to give audiences a first glimpse of the Momoguro world: its atmosphere, its characters, and the logic of the universe they inhabit.

Three 15-second films for Microsoft Copilot. Each film highlights a moment where Copilot makes a difference. Each one is animated in a different technique.
That choice was not decorative. Cel animation, stop motion, and motion graphics each carry a different emotional register. Assigning a distinct technique to each story was a way of giving every film its own voice while keeping the campaign coherent as a whole. One brief, three approaches, three directors: Maliboo, Bounty Banana, and Mostro.
The ability to move between techniques without losing visual consistency is what makes this kind of project possible. It is also, more or less, what Brut Works is.
